All-Rounder, Commentator And Coach - Ravi Shastri Has Done It All

We have seen Ravi Shastri the commentator and now we are seeing him as coach. Then there was a generation before us who saw him as a player as well. In short, the man has done it all. He has experienced three aspects of the game and it pretty much gives him a sense of perspective.

He was good with both bat and ball. The man has opened the innings, batted in the middle order and also come in towards the end. Be as it may, Shastri quit the game relatively early at the age of just 30. Whether it was his winning the Champion of Champions in 1985 at the World Championship of Cricket, scoring a double ton Down Under or taking a bunch of wickets, Shastri was always in the thick of things. In fact he as an energetic fielder too. He was part of the squad that won the 1983 World Cup. However, he did not play the final.

After his playing days were over, Shastri took to commentary and became a well known face behind the mic and on television. Soon he became and expert and his views were given high importance. Never afraid to speak his mind, Shastri was not one to mince words while praising or criticising anyone.

In 2017, he was appointed the new head coach of the Indian team. He had earlier served as Team Director and now was actually mentoring the side. Under his guidance we reached the Champions Trophy final and World Cup semis. Not to mention winning a Test series in Australia and West Indies.

So where does he go from here? BCCI perhaps? Who knows? Only time will tell and when the time comes we shall hear it from Shastri's mouth directly.
